PEF President Susan Kent joined leaders from 1199 Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and the New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) at a press conference Wednesday, August 29 to endorse David Soares for another term as Albany County District Attorney.
Soares worked closely with PEF for many years to address the issue of workplace violence and holding offenders accountable. He stood by a PEF member at a landmark sentencing, after he successfully prosecuted the first case under the state’s Violence Against Nurses Law.
“David Soares understands that brutal attacks on our members at their jobs is against the law,” Kent said. “His commitment to justice is helping to keep our members safer. Because of this, and his fight for the rights of the community as a whole, including support for healthcare workers and teachers, PEF is proud to stand by his side and encourage our members to vote for him.”
PEF Secretary-Treasurer Carlos Garcia was present at the event, where Gail Cook from 1199 SEIU and NYSUT Executive Vice President Andrew Pallotta also spoke.
