This is the first of several short, though in many cases, life-saving success stories told by young people and their families who’ve been helped at the Western New York Children’s Psychiatric Center over the years.
Save Our WNYCPC is a coalition of concerned patients, parents, community and elected leaders, and workers’ groups that have been fighting to stop Governor Cuomo and the state’s Office of Mental Health from closing this facility and relocating the children to the grounds of the Buffalo Psychiatric Center, which is an adult facility and where they clearly do not belong.
Due to tremendous and growing support across the WNY Community, we’ve been successful in getting this misguided plan put on hold – but the plan is still out there.
Current rumors say there’s a move to reduce the number of available beds at this facility from 46 to 36 – even though there are as many as 15 children on the waiting list as of this writing.
That’s why we’re fighting to get a long-term commitment from the Governor to fully support and keep the WNY Children’s Psychiatric Center where it is – and not turn away severely emotionally-needy children and their families by reducing the number of available beds while there’s a waiting list.
We ask that you please help us and send Governor Cuomo that same message. You can do so via a toll-free number that appears on our website.
We also ask that you please take the time to contact your local and state elected officials and ask them to contact the Governor in order to support keeping the WNY Children’s Psychiatric Center in West Seneca and not merge it with the Adult Buffalo Psychiatric Center.
And lastly, please consider passing this along to your family members, friends, neighbors, co-workers, groups and organizations – and ask them too to watch this video and then do the same. Thank You!
